Dr. Vassilyadi graduated from medical school at McGill University in 1990 and then completed his residency in neurosurgery at the Montreal Neurological Hospital. He completed further training in paediatric neurosurgery at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. In 1996 he joined the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine and was appointed to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.Dr. Vassilyadi is a diplomat of the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the American Board of Paediatric Neurological Surgery. He is presently an associate professor of surgery and paediatrics at the University of Ottawa. He operates on infants and children with disorders of the brain and spine, including trauma. His clinical interests focus on epilepsy surgery, spasticity, hydrocephalus, and neuroendoscopy. He presents at both national and international conferences, has multiple scientific publications and is on the editorial board for the journal “Pediatric Neurosurgery”.Dr. Vassilyadi is an advocate for head and spine injury prevention. He is the director of the Ottawa chapter of ThinkFirst Foundation of Canada. Both he and his wife volunteer their time and have delivered the message of protecting one’s brain to thousands of students (from pre-school to high school) and parents. Dr. Vassilyadi has also addressed principals, vice-principals, teachers, and coaches. Both the City of Ottawa and Public Health have endorsed ThinkFirst as an excellent program and have partnered with the Ottawa ThinkFirst chapter in many community events.
